A product of necessity.

The best hay feeder for cattle.

Trevor began his career in professional business as a CPA for KPMG Peat Marwick in the early 90’s, and has held several management positions in a variety of industries throughout his business career. Shortly thereafter the early years, a small Angus seedstock operation was initiated with time available before work, after work, and on the weekends. That business was known as Lienemann Cattle Company in its fledgling years, and has since grown to a prominent nationwide Angus seedstock provider known as Lienetics Ranch in recent years, and includes a commercial cow/calf operation and a fed cattle enterprise. Throughout the years in a professional career, and the growth of the cattle business, and growth of the Lienemann family with marriage and 4 kids; mornings, nights and weekends became more limited and demanding of resources and time allocation. Therefore, feeding the growing cattle herd needed to become very time efficient. That time efficiency was effected by putting round bales out only twice a week, and letting the cattle feed themselves throughout the periods in-between. The problem came with the significant hay waste and related cost that occurred with conventional bale feeders from the lack of hay utilization and having to haul it off as manure before it went through the cattle. The solution was the development of a cone insert which didn’t waste volumes of hay on the periodic feeding schedule. Trevor developed and patented the cone feeder insert in the early 2000’s. Many spin offs of the original cone feeder emerged over the next few years, but were only moderately successfully due to the original patented design and prohibitive pricing by other manufacturers. In the years that followed, Trevor continued to develop and improve on hay-saving feeder designs. Trevor was looking to incorporate the hay saving concept to a complete feeder unit that was more price competitive, user friendly, durable, and retail consumer oriented on a large scale. The Bextra Hay-Saving Feeder basket design proved to be the culminating product. The Bextra Feeder achieved the hay savings and convenience required in today’s industry. The Bextra was also much more price competitive than any other hay-saving feeder designs. Hay savings are up to 70% over conventional feeders and consistent with more costly and cumbersome cone feeders.

The Bextra Feeder performs like a cone feeder, with less cost and product maintenance. Bottom and Balanced feeding equals Extra hay dollar savings and profit to the producer. An added benefit, cattle eat from the bottom of the feeder in their natural grazing position, thereby increasing their comfort and reducing the quantity of times they enter and exit the feeder.

The United States Patent Office granted U.S. Patent No. 8,997,693 B2 to the Feeder For Livestock (BEXTRA) on April 7, 2015

A commitment to quality.

The Bextra Feeder innovation exceeds all convenience, economic, and durability standards in hay feeding practices. The Bextra Feeder is designed with the commercial cattlemen in mind. They need a Convenient, Effective, Efficient, Durable, and Economical method of feeding hay materials. The Bextra round bale feeder is constructed of high quality U.S. steel, and weighs approximately 300 pounds. The Bextra square bale feeder is constructed of high quality U.S. steel, and weighs approximately 550 pounds. All connection points, tubing, and sheet steel is fabricated by precision CNC equipment in a controlled manufacturing environment, and welded with strict quality control practices and industry standards. The Bextra Feeders have proven years of service currently in the 10 year range. As those are the oldest Bextra feeders in existence, we are not sure how long they will last with due care. The actual return on investment is phenomenal as compared to similar or lower cost conventional feeders when you consider the durability(life-span) and hay savings on a year in and year out basis. With a likely return on investment of 100% on an annual basis over conventional feeders, the Bextra Feeder becomes the lowest cost bale feeder on the market, bar none. Proven results.

Research conducted by Dr. Lalman and associates at Oklahoma State University demonstrated that using a Bextra feeder, referred thereto as a modified cone feeder, reduced hay waste by up to 58%, 70%, 75%, as compared to a conventional skirted, open bottom feeder, and poly feeders, respectively. This will result in dollar savings of hundreds and even thousands depend on cost of hay, and length of feeder period.

Research conducted at Michigan State University examined relation-ships between feeder design, animal behavior, and hay waste. That study showed extensive hay waste (up to 14.6 percent) with a ring, trailer or cradle, and as low as 3.5 percent with a feeder such as the Bextra. Also, there is significantly less agonistic interactions (head butting and displacement) with the Bextra feeder.

Lastly, and most importantly, are the thousands of repeat customers who buy the Bextra Feeder, and praise the product and results.
