Trevor began his career in professional business as a CPA for KPMG Peat Marwick in the early 90’s, and has held several management positions in a variety of industries throughout his business career. Shortly thereafter the early years, a small Angus seedstock operation was initiated with time available before work, after work, and on the weekends. That business was known as Lienemann Cattle Company in its fledgling years, and has since grown to a prominent nationwide Angus seedstock provider known as Lienetics Ranch in recent years, and includes a commercial cow/calf operation and a fed cattle enterprise. Throughout the years in a professional career, and the growth of the cattle business, and growth of the Lienemann family with marriage and 4 kids; mornings, nights and weekends became more limited and demanding of resources and time allocation. Therefore, feeding the growing cattle herd needed to become very time efficient. That time efficiency was effected by putting round bales out only twice a week, and letting the cattle feed themselves throughout the periods in-between. The problem came with the significant hay waste and related cost that occurred with conventional bale feeders from the lack of hay utilization and having to haul it off as manure before it went through the cattle. The solution was the development of a cone insert which didn’t waste volumes of hay on the periodic feeding schedule. Trevor developed and patented the cone feeder insert in the early 2000’s. Many spin offs of the original cone feeder emerged over the next few years, but were only moderately successfully due to the original patented design and prohibitive pricing by other manufacturers. In the years that followed, Trevor continued to develop and improve on hay-saving feeder designs. Trevor was looking to incorporate the hay saving concept to a complete feeder unit that was more price competitive, user friendly, durable, and retail consumer oriented on a large scale. The Bextra Hay-Saving Feeder basket design proved to be the culminating product. The Bextra Feeder achieved the hay savings and convenience required in today’s industry. Research conducted by Dr. Lalman and associates at Oklahoma State University demonstrated that using a Bextra feeder, referred thereto as a modified cone feeder, reduced hay waste by up to 58%, 70%, 75%, as compared to a conventional skirted, open bottom feeder, and poly feeders, respectively. This will result in dollar savings of hundreds and even thousands depend on cost of hay, and length of feeder period.

Research conducted at Michigan State University examined relation-ships between feeder design, animal behavior, and hay waste. That study showed extensive hay waste (up to 14.6 percent) with a ring, trailer or cradle, and as low as 3.5 percent with a feeder such as the Bextra.
